Don't Overlook Special Needs Pets

See what a group of 5th Graders thought of Silly Willy
below...

Story:
In my neighborhood I have been tagged the *Cat Lady*. Everyone knows that I provide a foster home for our local animal rescue group, WARF. I get several calls a month regarding abandonded kittens from the kids in the neighborhood, to calls from a local pet store needing someone to help rescue abandoned kittens.

One day in June of 2007 one such call came from my neighbor's daughter's children who had found 4 very tiny kittens wandering in their yard. Of course I went immediately to get them. I brought them all home and gave them a thorough check
over for everything from eye infections to ringworm to open wounds. I discovered this one kitten wasn't walking very good and he had trouble jumping onto and off of things that were more than a few inches high. I made an appointment to see a Vet and after an exam it was determined
that he had likely been born to a mother cat that had Distemper and it had affected him.....He is physicially impaired and his vision is like that of a crosseyed cat. However, he is one of the sweetest and happiest kitties I have ever encountered..

One day a friend of mine saw him and asked if he could attend a Church group of children mainly for them to see and learn what it was like to have a disability. Without a doubt all were in favor of keeping and loving such a loving and beautiful creature, with all his imperfections....

This is one of the finest kitties I have ever seen, so much so that I adopted him myself. I truly love him and do not even see his imperfections. He is a Super Special Cat.

Here are pics of him as a kitten and then all grown up and giving comfort to another special needs kitty. He is just a Jewel.....

Can this cat be saved?

Well that depends on who you ask, but a Sunday School class of 5th graders at Silver Hills Community Church thought so. His name is Silly Willy. He is a young disabled kitten who had distemper when he was quite young. Consequently he doesn’t walk quite like a normal cat and his balance is off. He’s not quick and agile like most kittens are. Many might even say he probably should have been euthanized because of this. But to a group of Sunday School 5th graders he was the “cats meow”. He easily won their affection with his cute meanderings. He was soft and cuddly and altogether delightful. He was a wonderful object lesson for these children that week provoking them to think of all the plans they would make for this kitten if he were theirs. I would easily recommend Silly Willy or any other kitten like him to be adopted as they are all quite lovable and make wonderful pets and companions for all kinds of people.
